Introduction
0:00hello and welcome to bear mountain bc.com stock dog philosophies podcast i'm your host i speak barrett and join me as always on the show is my brother justin sugar barrett and series regular our dad you have a bear i'm here he's here with us it's been a little while i think it finally got past allergy season so many people want to hear us a little bit now care voices aren't going to be totally off-putting but we're back we've got a great episode for you guys today we just
0:33finished up at irish fest down in tulsa the last this weekend he was there friday uh saturday sunday i was there saturday sunday anything off the top to start there big crowds uh very little space to work so we had to work through the crowd uh the dogs really really had to had to be mindful be spatially aware um i was really impressed none of them blew into the sheep or caused any bit of train wrecks which is really nice when we're in that type of space with
1:06being right there next to vendor booths of people that are paying because i don't want to have to pay for things yeah as we kind of you know look the sheep were good they didn't try to run over the candle plays or whatever it was honey they were doing honey didn't take out the honey you know they were today um so yeah we just took them out of the crowds they have a ton of air it operates it was been better in some aspects people were right up there in the middle of it um it's a little tougher for us but uh it is kind of tough and it is kind of not the best showing of our dogs we can't do
Crowd Favorite
1:38everything we want to do it it wasn't uh we were the crowd favorite um people just were begging to keep doing more but the wind was so bad the day the wind is i mean it was yeah the wind in oklahoma oh i've never been to the tulsa irish fest without one day one day being just bad weather it's just the way it goes of a festival in march yeah no i definitely agree with that but the great thing about that uh is we got to introduce that to a whole lot of you know the dog work and a lot of kids
2:11a lot a lot of kids a lot of kids some adults said multiple times this is the whole reason why i
Dog Work
2:17came this is my favorite part and you know that's that's really nice i would never believed you know maybe and i bet dad back in the 90s would never believe that having the dogs working the livestock would take you into places like that first off to be doing a demos at a festival like that yeah too for me in some parts it's getting to hear i would never believe that me doing the dogs and the sheep would bring me to those festivals to hear some of these artists that are just so talented you know it's kind of cool it's kind of cool when they say you know like the the
2:52best from uh kansas city which is a huge festival comes down and goes i want that you know yes so you know that's that's kind of a good compliment no definitely put on a good show nice compliment yeah yeah so um again we've had a good weekend there we gotta expose the dogs to i don't know hundreds of people maybe more thousands thousands um we gotta see a little bit we were a good petting zoo for a
3:22little while too or we a bunch of kids gotta feed the sheep a little bit gotta pet them that's what people would love to do or the goats as they call them yeah it actually it actually helped so much because you weren't there on friday when we first did like a test run they were real goosey and it was kind of rough with the space but after it opened up and we let the kids feed them they kind of slowed down a lot which helped tremendously for us to do work in that uh that's that venue so much and the kids loved feeding them yeah no definitely uh one thing that we've had kind of moving on from
Puppies
3:53the iris fest one thing we've had recently since we've uh had our last podcast we've had puppies we've started but yeah you've got an entirely new puppy since then so uh we've had kiara and scooter out in the round pen a few times had poe out there as well and then you got your new dog jim so you have a bit of a head start on us so i'll let you kind of go first and yeah so jim is just like good things like five days older than the others and i have to say casey hebbers did a great job with
4:24doing the foundation work and starting ever because she's just a super nice dog i gotta remember to do the right things and not lean and push on her because she is a dog who will push back on me a little bit if i push to yeah if i'm leaning on her she's gonna lean a little bit so i gotta make sure i'm doing my movements correctly for her but i mean she's doing really well we're in the top field doing some outruns she makes a lot of good decisions she she just kind of has a fantastic feel little where she wants to be yeah super nice kiara has been it's probably out of the three i'd assume
4:57is with watching her different stuff the furthest along she's probably all about the most serious she's probably the most serious the two have kind of come around pretty good so yeah yeah i feel good about all of our puppies really yeah have a good battle starting to come around he's circling uh we got him to go against the fence both ways he's real relaxed now when he does it so it's it's coming along pretty good haven't worked him in about four days but i probably i'm not
5:27going to get serious with him so we're yet yeah so probably every three four days a couple times a week it's a part of the goal of this is to initially like i said just get him around the sheet get him to go both ways and be calm you want to see that tail go down quite a bit and then once you get that you kind of move them out of there and you've experienced that really quickly with jim yeah because she had some background on already but also you moved her out of the arena up to the field and worked there a few times too and i got him to down on command uh and walk up and then down
6:00so well the good thing is we're in this for the long haul we're not trying to rush them along but we'd want them to get there take them at their own pace of getting there efficiently we don't want to slow play them or try to brush them you know we're trying to do that fine line not pushing too with their awful birthdays yeah it's not great it's not kind of the goal for us isn't really to have them ready to trial anytime soon um whenever the next season begins that's august so we don't really run anywhere until september really don't know august it's september october the time we
6:34we really need them ready for a course we've still got six months six months before we have to do that so there's lots of right time to make some gains with them that's just the beginning part of the season we can really have them ready halfway through that have a whole year before we really you know get our qualification legs or whatever so um they've got a while to grow and develop and i feel like they're in a pretty good spot and but uh yeah go ahead yeah definitely not in a hurry i'm i'm not you know they'll be ready when they're ready so yeah so what i found today i love to keep
7:04some videos with this i didn't either i just happened to find our old youtube page and i saw this on there this is woodrow the old our old youtube page or our youtube page our old youtube page oh man i lost the stuff this one and so i have a new one we've used last few years this one goes way back uh as noticed by several things but uh yeah we have woodrow out here at 10 months he's the uncle
Woodrow Video
7:29to several of the puppies we have so we haven't watched this we have no idea i have no idea this is stuff we're gonna break it down so we're talking about puppies i figured we kind of i don't even remember this so i i don't remember this it's been fitting to it's been like eight years ago off on the volume yep that's it yeah take stuff right at them got a little bit of a flag kind of thing going on again point at their head turning them so you want to see again going around
8:00a lot of times when a young dog keep the leash on them so they're easy to catch that's what we have here get him to go he's like once you get him that's a i'm gonna stop real quick it's a point i want to make a lot of times with these young dogs if you're starting them in the round pen um whenever you like down and start again it might be trouble initially that's a part that doesn't where you think oh we've turned and flipped them around they've stayed around the sheep going really well but as soon as they down you start fresh again it's not gonna go as well
8:32typically and then like here i also didn't push him out i let him walk in it's 10 months right now it's 10 months i i didn't which is probably gonna cause a problem here just guessing by where the video is looking right now um by not making him give the ground letting him come into the into it all and not making sure he's going out yeah doing my assumption you can continue this and see if i'm right i don't think you've been in the realm being hard yet this is probably pretty this is probably pretty early like first time second time yep that's kind of how i anticipated going to the fence is
9:04tough i've seen that i've seen that same view a lot of times on the last nine years eight years the more things change the more they stay the same right yeah i get a good work outside of that once you go off the fence he's what's he getting going that's that's how it works all the time you bite something and turns out real good he's not really fair to the flags no not really yet but he got around him good get some pressure a little tight obviously i'm not making him you know give the ground that's a little better of
9:36making him give the ground i don't know if you made him or he just did it kind of did but either way that's kind of what she wants that turn out that way he is more likely that way he's more likely to be right you know instead of stepping in he's stepping you know out which is a big and a really good point here this is a minute 27 video woodrow's 10 months old at this point we haven't worked him very much at all if at all yeah yeah this is minute 27 more than enough to get him a little
10:09big goal you don't have to have crazy long words okay we got him off he's doing this doing that we're good the only thing he might do different and maybe nowadays he might would be to go ahead and bundle him up carry him out because it looks like he's going to drag him out and it's one of the first times so yeah the rules so yeah one of the things dwayne uh thompson told you right was to yep to pick up carry them so they leave on a good note you're not grabbing them dragging them out the time still even more i still wearing my plastic red whistle which i still have but i don't
10:42use very often anymore yep yeah you get the vest on i think you still wear that hey we're not gonna we won't go back and work in this round pen because it ain't there no more yeah it doesn't exist because the old vartos no longer exists yeah that does not exist there anymore yeah it was a fantastic round pen size wise for us yeah that was great goats are always good the goats are good because you can buy them like that they're pretty they squall make the dogs excited they stay together pretty well yeah they typically those ones they would come they would well you know if your dog wasn't coming
11:16on good they would start too so starting on goats is always a decent choice if you got some good goats all right what's your other one video you got here boss man okay so i think we talk about puppies anymore oh we'll keep talking about puppies i didn't know what you want for deep here but yeah i just i want to give us an example of what it looks like to work a puppy and that was yeah not knowing what i was signing up for it was a pretty good example again the bad part you know the crazy thing is he was 10 months here in like three months he goes ahead and he's been open
11:48that's not true that's not true it's like two years old okay we got like a year and two months okay before that happens yeah this is he's almost three he never got to run a trial as anything but open i regret that decision i gotta tell you 10 months i'm thinking this is the fall this is the fall yeah yeah yeah this is the fall yeah the fall of the next year would have been 2019 uh-huh it was 20
12:192019 yeah so we ran car 20 he didn't run there he didn't run there he wasn't ready a year later he wasn't he was in the class we were in the class but we couldn't do that car qualifies there then 2020 happened you know we just had a bunch and then i said screw it let's go to open first trials go to angie's open should have took spice i'll tell you that was a big mistake by me yeah sometimes you don't fuck you up but when you make a decision when you make a decision you're going to
12:49retire him yeah ashley wasn't happy about that decision to retire not even find the sheep at all you know she's like we spent all that money and no i mean retiring spice because you didn't run her after that not a lot it was just one dog of the year hey it's a good note to end on you know tries to finish on top you know finish it on top okay yeah we're like seven you know is it a prime so i guess i should have retired woodrow we won you know i should just quit right now that's basically what they did if you ran jim and open in a couple weeks you would repeat
13:23the cycle you would repeat the cycle no not repeating that cycle exactly we don't want to do that woodrow will keep going he's alley's favorite he'll keep running yeah no that was a good good example we'll get into more of this we're just going to record some as we're working the pups and he's yeah he's been a good dog we'll talk about some stylistic differences and you know how you how you handle different puppies because even the three we had together they're all very different a little bit different and then jim obviously totally different as well so uh-huh it'd be some good stuff for us to to learn from another video i have i'm thinking from the same year is
Spice Video
13:59of spice yet so 2018 as well i'm guessing it's from the same year this has to be this has to be october was that in the october trial one and so this is the november one coming out this is susan doing the set out and setting out but what class is this by the way is this open probably open yeah 2018 2018 this is where we ran right down i think i think it's who that is that yeah that was that was eli
14:33i think spies comes around again i love looking at these setups look at i mean 12 stop any food this is on this is on floyd she had never seen dogs before so it was a good i love this view you had a really good hour i mean she come in really nice and then she didn't finish because she got stuck on the feed pen a little bit but she come in and had decent spot and turned in and then just didn't hang on to it didn't control it there yeah working nice here but you know she's a speedster so this is all
15:07going to be on a high speed good line doesn't not really down in much like you kind of stop almost down and back up that's perfectly fine her that little half step stutter stop she does is just enough distance she can give just to rate the sheep well with the stop i never did always make her fully stop because she would just slow up just enough to make everything stay line out i think this may have been the first time steve had seen her since he sold her toots i don't doubt it
15:39she would have been like six years old yeah maybe at this point yes five it was 20 she's 2013 so it was 2018 five yeah she would have had her for four years yeah it could be right well three years i think four yeah something like that kind of got her a little bit right there this hey you see that vehicle up there that's my vehicle as the judges uh that's the judges still keep going 300 plus miles it's the old welpin house
16:11there they had yeah lined them out a little bit i've forgotten i'm going you could say it's a little too slow but it was really tough it was really tough if i remember right that coming right there through that section right there with the barn there yeah was difficult to make that section did not lose them to that corner overnight stuff yeah so they wanted to go to that barn so it was a little bit of a challenge yeah one lagging one here how do you typically let's just pause for a second we'll talk about it she's trying to bluff a little bit kind of went by it didn't actually grab
16:41it but she did how do you normally try to handle that just say you have someone like one like that behind as you're driving what's the thought i just tried my thought is to if i can get them moving don't let them stop just don't stop don't even worry about your line so much as don't let them stop to keep them flowing especially the dog spice she gets sheep moving well but that's the most powerful not the most powerful dog so you gotta you know kind of the same thing with car if i get them stopped it's really hard to come back up and move them if we stay moving just things go
17:11pretty well but whenever you have one like that that gets behind um you kind of hope they do like these sheep are doing the others kind of keep walking they stop and you can get behind it to get they try to move you can be in a really bad spot they're drawing that sometimes you can do a little left a little you know a little way a little come by left right flank behind that one sheep to just kind of get to the eye of them to make them want to go or like her she comes up finally close enough and kind of does a little fly by doesn't grab a fly by it which gets you dq'd sometimes yeah but you got to make a move otherwise you're you know you're dq'd anyway so somebody get the other sheep
17:44in there a lot of sight or something yeah jump back or wants to go back up to them yeah um whatever so we'll kind of continue on here let's see you know i have no idea about any of this video but i don't either this could be a good run or a bad run but it looks like how far we're through it it's probably not a great run it's also it takes all six minutes okay i didn't know how long the course was back then okay well i just the the video is six oh okay i don't know i think it went pretty good i think once you turn the if i remember this trial right what if you got to the drive panel and
18:15made the turn then they would go across them good pretty darn good right now i don't still can't see the drive panel and frame but it's gonna be pretty close i mean we know who the cameraman is yeah it's a dang fine cameraman it's not dad no this was ty had to work the open because i was having to because i ran open now so then i had to do all the set out pin work during the rest of classes and ty was running dogs in the lower classes because you hadn't ran tea there's chances this is open ranch there's a chance it is open ranch yeah yeah if i remember right i think i think
18:50it is open ranch i think i won in 2019 i ran because i won open ranch 2018 and i won because i ran my first ever trial in 2019 so yeah because i went back back i won an open ranch dog of the year and then i ran the open ranch because i got second this year in open ranch um and won up the next year but i ran in the trial this one 2019 yeah because i already won the thing i already clenched the title for dog of the year so then i ran tea and open for the first time before first time look at the wheel of the little dog she is a speedster in her own right and just always kind
19:22of where she needs to be yeah she's a good listener when she wants to be this is back when i work regularly how she moves and works a little bit definitely want to be on the high side of these panels and you are yeah it kind of ooh you could say i'm hitting you for a little bit it's like you can be hip good i got in front of a circle around but we did go in front of the sheep on that so yeah it is a points lost didn't fully cross it though but not bad again good turn down broadway and you send the other way just
20:00there you go i remember these uh floyd sheep you just got what you got because there was ram lambs and there's you lambs and and they just ran they just ran together i don't love the angle of our pen here yeah yeah it kind of was a fan of that well i guess it kind of opens up that pin is still using today so they've had that i mean that pins last a long time it's a good one yeah good thank you for like you're offline a little bit you need to move them but maybe
20:30i think i think it's i don't i don't know i think it's a little offline but i feel like you should move them back more this way send it on and away but i feel like you have to go behind the pen push them in the back looks like that maybe it could be an option yeah yeah i think they're coming towards the front of it but we got that lagger i'm just doing everything i can to keep from i'll probably run out of time i bet before i get them in hopefully get it i think yeah a little bit time here if i remember it they weren't bad pinners no definitely not she does down for you at the pen
21:06that's good she always was just good and she did this little half creep and you may not see it there just creeping and then do a little creep down sometimes she'll do a little shuffle on the ground up to them and help to like that little shuffle you don't want to put too much pressure on and she's doing a good job of just barely inching it she's got three of them in the mouth and then one's fixing to walk right there okay now you get a shot at it the question is i'm going to do my half of it or i can't remember these sheep were kind of a little more which they were more leery
21:37of you because he'd had a hot shot so they were a little more for you that was it didn't get that was it didn't get the pen tastes a different video entirely right here like we've seen that one before yeah we've seen that one before we're not gonna watch it but yeah so that's uh it was a good video of of which row they're not what their spice and sugar getting after it yeah miss a pen i would have like when you're bringing them in now would you still have brought them in as close to as you did to the the like bar of that pen or would you bring them out first close to you and then in
22:10i would probably think to go if i'm working it bring them more to me and then turn them in yeah i would probably close like as tight as you did i probably chose the tightness because i was running out of time but slightly with dealing with the lagger i was trying to just keep that line real tight to it and hoping i could just barely squeak it through knowing they weren't going to break to the inside edge to the outside edge to the exhaust yeah which was to the right of that view there uh so i was probably just planning on trying to cover that and keep that line tight it was probably the plan but i mean you're talking 2018 that's two kids ago for me so
22:42it's been a little while it's been a little while been a while so what did what did you think dad what would you have done how would you bring the sheep in bring them like like you did there yeah i might have brought them towards more towards me and then turn them into the pen yeah not have the pen stopped that one lagging yeah been more free to move yeah definitely you know you never know yeah i'm just trying to give some training insights yeah yeah ways we've learned to grow and so one of the things we are kind of learning and growing is we put in for meeker
23:13me and dad have and then justin has to justin didn't put in no i uh i got i got withdrawed i can't give that much time put on for the kion ranch in colorado this uh spring june i guess early summer first second second weekend of june i guess it's not a spring until like i don't remember june right june 1st or whatever i don't know how that works i think like june is hot solstice but technically i think it's spring still um but yeah so we'll we'll be going to that trial in colorado a little bit and
23:47so first time in colorado to trial for us yeah first time dad really ever traveling west of oklahoma that's pretty much pretty much yeah in texas is maybe west i don't know no he's just been down kind of straight south of us never west really straight south and just a lot of east you and i've been to montana and that was fun uh yeah first time for dad yeah for us to go to colorado excited about that try some you know mountain rain sheep maybe yeah a little different experience a little sheep
24:17for sure uh and then we're going to new hampshire again dad was there last year and go judging and running it they did so well last year running it they said we got to have you as a judge so compete against them you know it's tough anymore so we're gonna do that um they just want to hear
Meeker Trial
24:31the accent that's that's the thing his fan club wants to hear the accent this might be a shorter episode for us today we're gonna watch a little bit of uh a run from meeker and just talk about necessarily break down the run and how it's going because i have no idea how the runs go i just found one on youtube of someone who's i think a supporter of the podcast she's mentioned she wanted to be on before her friend i i talked to her beth kerber beth kerber has been on here as well this is gonna be k stevens we will have her on at some point as a guest at some point uh so
25:02we'll watch this is on youtube um and we'll talk more about the sheep and the layout of the course as opposed to the because the actual run because meeker's a different animal in respect they a lot of the time i mean over half the time the sheep just leave the field and they call it getting meeker because the sheep are coming i can't remember from what mountain ranger come from the giant herd they'll bring in these yearlings for it um and so they're there and it's a whole new world for them where they're grazed at and where the sheep are where they where they tend to like to run
25:34when they make that decision is towards where they're grazed at and bedded overnight which is usually to the right if i remember correctly um just based on hearing other people talk i have not been to this trial while it actually happens and just run now it's fence back in the old days there wasn't fence and they would wind up you know a lot of sheep wound up in the parking lot i mean and this is what the preeminent trial this is one of the big this is grain daddy's it's the premier trial of the continent i would say yeah like the u.s for sure like that and bluegrass are the top
26:05two that are not the nationals but there's their meeker is this year there probably won't be but in other years there's a lot of foreigners come to run this trial i mean yeah it's it's big time yeah so hopefully we can get in and have a piece of it if not well try again some year and get in you know but i will watch over this run and see what's going on this is again a really really big trial spectators beautiful scenery oh my gosh the mountains the background yep mountains background they have a i mean the whole event is fantastic we've been by the town's involved we've been by
26:39this field a few times but we've never been during the trial yeah so and so if you're not able to actually go to meeker like we have never been there done watched or gone before um on meeker every year does have it broadcasted so you can watch it as it's going live stream the entire time and watch people's runs uh they have it laid out so you know who's going to run what days and kind of what ish time they're going to run and that's kind of neat overall you have 13 minutes you have 13 minutes good live stream set up here from 321 action videos this is 2024 i think it said
27:1425 something like that and again this is k stevens and sweet i'm gonna watch just some of the run and look at the field the layout and the sheep here it's a good long out run it's a what is uh solid at a hard run yeah oh it's not better fast it's a solid minute oh i guess i could turn the sound off still i don't need that and so a lot of handlers as you can see what she's doing there she is saying a timer because in meeker it is very helpful to have a timer because
27:49if you're getting towards the end of it you kind of do want to know where you're at i don't think it's a highly a difference but it is nice to the left on the away this dog's running the more mode path on the edge it's a little tighter there it there's so i guess it's 400 either way probably yeah it's like a 500 four five hundred yeah i don't know what it is i think it's bigger as they go but and it's uh if you go with this way you do the away there's a fence there it takes you up but you'll go past the set out pants which can't throw you off on some dogs if you go the other
28:22dogs take it off really wide here it's good and you're going uphill it looks like you know it is a long out run it is long we're at 45 seconds and we hadn't even got anywhere yet yeah we're still maybe halfway to that point we're yeah we're not even to the setup yet so you kind of could see them there approaching by that port of let here's some there then i still don't see the actual sheep yet nope they're still going man it's it's a long way i'm
28:57telling you because i haven't really watched runs here but most people send me it this way there's a lot that's into the the wayside you'll see every now and again the dog to come by again he's looking he's coming in hit that fence and kind of he's kind of looking where the whistles we could tell you if there's a redirect see he's got his head up looking there he's all now you're seeing the horse setback yeah that's a oh my gosh it's a long way it's a long one and that is not the panel so panels are over to the left i think and now those are the fetch panels i'm pretty sure i'm pretty sure get those big ones there's that post right there in that post
29:31i'm pretty sure look at how big those things are oh my god and that is a direction they will want to take off and run that is i guess that's why you send that way to hopefully stop short and be able to turn around and catch them if they're going to want to break really tough they're breaking definitely have to your dog has to want to cover and get to the head because they are going to make it mad dash she's trying to but they are breaking hard maybe i picked a bad run to go through i have no idea no no it most of the runs are a lot about half the runs are like this maybe
30:01more than half these things are headstrong and yeah you want to really control the eyes a lot more maybe that's maybe where some uh working some calves we benefit even you know guys that made the final run uh some of them get out about this far and you have to bring them all the way back and is it kind of ran toward where the set out was right by that and then these sheep they bring 300 and 750 of them in a merino yearling ewes for the meeker classic that come from the campbell hampshire sheep operation um is where they come from and they're up there and i've never seen
30:37they are they are basically from they went in the north range of cisco utah the high lush green pastures above vale and equal colorado in the summer so they don't really see people or dogs a bunch i mean they are and you kind of see they get their head up and yeah they can go it's a yeah definitely they want to take off and then you just kind of bring them from there maybe you know maybe kind of help a little bit we do some cattle where you want to control their
31:10eyes more and you know their heads more like lyle told us you don't realize how big those are until all of a sudden you see them coming bearing down on you on the fence you go holy it's almost like a tick out there yeah these suckers yeah they're big and so and they don't want to move yeah hopefully it'll waste 240 bucks just hey nothing else you could say you got meekered and you'll be there for the event and meeker is one to worth if you got an open dog and you feel kind of confident
31:43it's one to go to man i mean it is a premier trial it's got a bunch of other events going on within itself during the dog trial here that's going on and you know they have a a bunch of stuff going on they got a bunch of stuff going on the city the city meeker is very much invested in this let's just say it's not a city the town of meeker has invested in this and it's it's huge it's a big uh money making brought them back from bankruptcy to putting this trial on so and you know they're fully involved with it
32:16there's scholarships that come off of this for kids from meeker and so it's a wonderful thing to to she's done a good job of moving them back online you know trying to save some points well she's doing that you know that's one thing you got to remember out here is if you want to save your points isn't bring them to you from over there you got to put them back online and then come down which is a time eater time eater and it's not it's warm there too i mean this is still in the depending on september so it's not super cold or anything yet and depending on sunny day
32:47then it could be a sunny day and you get later in the day with these guys they're going to get a little more stompy a little more fire you not want to go and usually if you can get them down around you you can get around the rest of course pretty good once you start moving you can move most of the time getting them yeah getting them which is more crazy to think she hadn't reached the fetch panels yet yeah if you want to think about how far and she's five and a half minutes into the run yeah it's a tough course and this is it takes a lot of work to get it done she got it done the little dog she got it done
33:17getting up there one joins back with them and there we go no like uh jack knox said if you want it meeker you've really won because it is you know you gotta get through the preliminary round and they do pick I think remember how many rounds out of each day gets into the semis yeah is it a semis or just go straight to a finals I like that you know it's a I think it's a semis I think it goes straight to the finals so you got so many dogs I don't remember how I gotta look it up I really should know this information I feel like it's probably semis and then a final round on Sunday probably semis Saturday and then final Sunday I'm guessing
Meeker Course
33:50but I could
Meeker Course
33:50it's Wednesday, Thursday, Friday yeah three days and then a Saturday yeah that's probably right all right yeah taxing tough days yeah these suckers are like llamas out there whatever those are you know big old necks hairy I mean you can look at the dog here as you're halfway through her time and this dog's tongue is a little bit out it's probably hot this is a challenge this is a lot of mental work and physical work for the dog to cover that amount of ground
34:21yeah basically thank you if they're 500 yards out there this dog's ran over a thousand yards oh we're taking a second right here if we do get it and I get it this far I'm not gonna be mad at myself no matter what happens I don't care if it's like yeah 13 minutes but if we get right there I'll be very happy to get the sheep at my feet that's a that's accomplishment man and one of the reasons why we wanted to do this is because the generation we're in now Justin mentioned retiring Spice I don't necessarily think we're gonna retire Woodrow and Cara in the next year or two but they are good on the upper half
34:52you know the downhill slide of their careers now right they're not spring chickens anymore they're summer chickens summer chickens maybe getting close to fall chickens maybe getting close to fall chickens we're not winter time chickens what's kind of neat on this they're moving good on this drive yeah my goodness a lot of this because I watch this every year at work whenever it happens so I'll turn different computers on at work and start playing this and it throws people off while I'm watching this I will because I gotta work in between so I'll like catch half a run of somebody I'll catch like two minutes of a run and that's it
35:22and there's these big white rocks you see there and a lot of people that send off to the left on a come by the dog will spot something white out there and you can see when he gets there he's surprised that it's not sheep yeah and so and usually if you get them going you're doing alright I mean he made a good good job with that drive panel I didn't say they're a little too far you still got five minutes at this point so like as much as we struggled early on there's still time to get through if you can get a good
35:53man those things just lost there's that tall grass yeah and the cameraman got off but they're also just lost yeah it's tall grass sometimes I think they mow it if it is too tall depending on the year so it's not so bad but I you know it's hard for me well the outer edges out there is always going to be pretty tall so as long as you stay on the course yeah you're in the short grass yeah and I assume she's got to be low but I don't know with this course
36:23yeah watching the video well the way she's moving looks like she's high sometimes when you film these things it's hard to have an idea now she's probably fixing it now she's probably about on line so we'll superimpose whenever we figure out a lot of superimpose the actual line and then the good thing is yeah I guess that's the fetch panels I guess she did get high so she had to get back low yeah she's a little bit high yeah they were pretty high I guess I forgot as I went through that little dip and disappeared and it is a long still yeah three
36:54four minutes here to get to the cross drive and then the pin you still got I think you got a shed then pin if I remember right whatever it would be but you can see over there where the horse is at that's where the set out's at but it doesn't look like the cross drive is terribly far from where you're at no but it is a long cross drive I mean that's a pretty long drive but that cross drive is wicked long yeah yeah that's not terribly far from you ooh now you got look at there I think you got to catch them you got to catch them because they're going to run setting up stuff here time wise should be doable
37:25yeah and there's one going to leave so that's the maker right there so that's the maker we'll see how this goes that's tough yeah there isn't I mean I still haven't seen the dog get into view yet so yeah cause you know that at all so now now you got to pull them back and get the one cause something just an issue and you gotta figure all that out so I'll be really interested to see what she does I bet she's going to take the four to the one which would be smart yeah I mean you almost have to in this situation well they're probably going to
37:56run to it anyways they haven't seen it yet can I still get them to see it there they go I think or is the plan to get the four down lower you could take the push the four down have the dog look back go pick up the one and run them down now these are going to leave you know that's what maker does to you right here so yeah so you kind of have a couple choices one you go there and pick it up with the four you're going to lose points for it but you get them all back together that one's laid down now yeah I mean you're just in a once you get them there to get them off the fence
38:27it's going to be and you can see how tough this is because K is terrific yeah so yeah man look at the view the kind of misty mountain oh yeah oh yeah that sheep has says it's tired that was a lot of running I'm done I'll hide over here so I don't know what's going to happen with it and maybe we can ask her about that whenever on and see what actually happened here yeah if they did like what they did with that what happened maybe get back up in a second maybe I don't know
38:57she's probably going to be close enough now where you could try to send to that one but I don't know if your dog would flank around to it if it would pop up I don't know I don't know you know this is a tough part she's I think with some pressure it might pop up she's doing it right in some regards to get it but I don't know that but it still hadn't popped up yet yeah and you can see the dog's tongue that tongue is hanging out yeah it's it's tired and you're talking about thin air too you know yeah you're being in Colorado it's a little bit from cause she's down there towards Fort Worth right no she's towards oh her sponsors are she's from
39:28Call of Station yeah so I mean definitely this is definitely a mile high so yeah okay well she's got him on top of him now you'd think that it would get up if best we send the dog maybe send the dog around hope it just comes around and picks it I don't know I don't know what the plan is and that one still ain't getting up the dog's not gonna see it really there it goes and there it goes alright it's okay I'll get up still there's now the problem is
39:58your four going down and you got the one this is yes I see the cowboys are coming down to help but they weren't sure what was happening yeah this is rough and the four leaving and you still got the one yeah that's dog trying right there 100% that is dog trying look back like I don't know what you I'll just tell me time come on that's me that's what we want to sign up for looks fun right dad it looks fun it doesn't look intimidating at all yeah so
40:30I think we're going to stop there we'll have another episode here soon we talk more about the puppies we've got some videos of them working and thank you guys so much for listening to this episode of BarrettMountainBC.com Stock Dog Philosophy's Podcast alright alright I'll see you you
