0:00hello and welcome to barrettmountainbc.com stock dog philosophies podcast i'm your host i speak barrett and told me as always my brother justin sugar barrett and uh what did we say earlier series regular our dad beautiful barrett and i'm here yeah so we had a great 15 minutes of podcasts we just lost forever unfortunately i'm trying to recreate some of that magic but
0:35uh we're coming at you guys with maybe our first audience ever okay i don't know we have some sheep right over there watching us yeah a good little audience uh here at the creek county fairgrounds we just finished up our osda 2026 justin is getting real comfortable here so i expect some stuff to just fly off the cuff unfiltered here in a second yeah we just finished up our 2026 osda creek county classic here at the fairgrounds in the arena for the all of ffa and
1:05four h benefit we had raised over 3800 for them and and just under two day and you know two days worth of trials yeah uh great fundraiser great cause great kids who helped out and make us have to do too much outside the judging part that we did yeah i mean they took over pretty much run the back they did a good job need a little bit of guidance from one of the other parents usually and me back there for a little bit yeah but overall they did a good job they worked their butts off because it's just
1:36seven kids hauling panels around moving sheep for gosh we started eight in the morning we went till a little after six so you're talking 10 hours of kind of non-stop going from just every five minutes or less right so yeah five minutes five minutes they put on a good i mean it was good having the trial here because they put on a good concession uh i mean they did i mean they did they made fantastic awards yeah the awards were really cool we put some time and effort to that so uh we really appreciated them the arena was great especially considering how cold it was outside should beat that guy out of
2:11love lyle but should be the heck out of misery this week yeah yeah yeah we're great dog people are called crazy for a reason you know dog the hurting people we're a little crazy but i gotta tell you i'm glad i didn't go whenever it's 21 degrees outside and it feels like eight i'm like yeah no one sleeps yeah i'm okay indoors and that's not fun eaters with these bleachers because i enjoy the uh what is the word i'm looking for the togetherness to talk on with people social aspect of it all yeah
2:41like talking to people hanging out even though most time i'm working it's always fun to sit there and have a chance to talk to people we had we had new people show up to trial uh it was the largest uh novice class i could remember um and we had people that hadn't tried we had uh we had you know somebody here that hadn't trialed here since 20 2001 and it was kind of a neat deal because he had the running order from then so there's a lot of guys that run back then that sport has changed i was four years old back then yeah that wasn't even the first trial that's been held the creek county
3:16fairgrounds it's probably a couple years before was the first one so you can honestly say we've been trial there's been trials held over the years here for over 26 years there's been a trial over the time held here and yeah i was the first one to put a trial on here so yeah ever so that's and it's a long time ago you know the arena is great it's a heated bleachers it's a decent sized arena um it's got a wonderful parking lot it's got hookups for trailers and everybody it's got a giant field
3:48to run your dogs in and it's off the beaten high i mean it's right next to the high the turnpike and everything yeah it's easy to go back central location again the hookups is great five minutes the town to go eat whatever you want bathrooms you can use so i mean really it's a great location for everything anything you want to do right right kind of everywhere everything you want so that's a it's a great great venue uh but now kind of to some of the trial stuff what we're gonna do this episode is look back at a few runs that we had um from each of us this weekend but uh kind of first just go
4:21over some things we saw and some things uh we you know felt happy in our runs and not just ours but some others and hopefully point out some key characteristics out of those and so maybe let's start with some of the novice you judged the novice today i think i judged it yesterday yeah i think you judged it yesterday so we had a huge novice class again about 20 dogs and so some of the things you saw so what'd you see what some tips you would say to them just kind of anonymously here oh man i mean honestly i was really impressed with quite a few of the dogs the way they handled the tightness because a
4:54lot of times you're seeing so many young dogs with young handlers um i was really impressed with a kid who watched all day yesterday and he came out with his dog today and did it um big thing is i think you know it's kind of his first trial with novice it's thinking about where you're going what you're doing those are the big things you kind of got to plan your steps out just a little bit and think about you know not get too ahead of yourself with what you're doing yeah that's a really great uh point that i was kind of thinking about too is that so much of the sport to be at the highest level
5:26you can't just accomplish the task that you're on right now you want to accomplish it in a way that sets you up for the next thing kind of like we play pool all the time and dad always beats us because he puts english on it and tries to set up his next shot me and you just try to hit the ball in we're just trying to get the ball in the hole and dad's gonna hit the ball in the hole and he's got several ahead of us and he wins all the time because of that and we're working the cross today i saw a bunch of open ranch we had to we made it where you when you got them through the cross the first part you had to go and turn them 90 degrees back out the opposite way where you were
6:02standing and so many times i saw people that they were working getting them in the cross but not doing it in a way that would make them be able to get the next part of it right and so they would push them straight at the end they would turn back towards the right which you want to go left and then if just redo redo redo redo redo all this stuff over and over again that wasn't really the ideal scenario because they wouldn't you want to set it up where you can get the next move through sometimes you don't want to be playing checkers you want to play chess yeah and and of course like some people aren't even on the board and so what you want to do like when you're getting them in
6:37there you don't want to force them in there you want to have them stopped you want to get them almost single file just going in there really really slow so when you get them in there they're all in that still in the like panel essentially correct so then you can go move and get them people were trying to like run across or send their dog back across really quick and it just wasn't especially with how tight some of those dogs were yeah wasn't the most effective way to do it so when you're out here don't just think about if you want to take the next step as a handler don't just think about what you're doing think about how you could do that to set up the next thing right
7:08it even goes to some judge trials too like how can i set up the drive finish my drive to set up my cross drive better well it doesn't when i turn that in how do i get that going so how do i get my shed set up better so i can go pin next and make that really or how do i go from my pin to the shedding ring you know what i mean those are some thoughts that if you just pin open up get them out you're kind of losing some points and making it a lot harder on yourself so yeah yeah i mean it's i don't know where i was going until i got it in a two second span yeah and so some things i'm seeing too is like
7:41you would have to exit from the t to go to that cross and so you want to do whatever you can just like i said the pin the best time to do it is that first opportunity you have because you can line them out because you're not coming from the right back in front of you and so you want to do all you can to get this t done in a way that you can kind of stop these sheep and you can get ahead of them get over the cross cut them off put them in the first time there's the easiest way you can do it the uh not on this course ty had to deal with it justin didn't have to deal with this weekend
8:12going first is a different thing you have to kind of look at it decide how you're going to do it yeah and everybody else gets to watch what you're doing so if it works great if it doesn't they know not to do it so you've showed them what not to do so it's you know it is a challenge to have to go first um especially in this situation like that kind of cost me the first day we did you scored the fetch i didn't really have a good shot i sent my dog they followed i think you were setting them out of that point yeah i stopped but it followed you and kind of down their way out of it until i
8:44get there they're gone they missed it before my dogs even got behind them and uh everybody else went the other way you know i didn't really i was like i'll send this way to start i if everybody else did the way if i would have sent the come by side probably would have caught them and hopefully got through um but the reason i didn't is like oh they're probably a little heavier there maddie will probably stop as i'm sitting there because she feels the pressure so i'll send her the other way and didn't work yeah and that's the tough part here's like we talked about this trial was a points trial if you finished it you know we ended up with all the points i think maybe once in
9:18the open yeah and you know and they had a very good time no wrong they had a quick time on that anyways but nobody else did so it really was almost for everybody it was choosing where i'm gonna if i'm gonna give up the points here if i'm gonna choose here and it really was on the t was a big factor for some people because i just give up and not get the extra points and just try to get through the rest of the course and hope no one else gets the t and the rest of it and those things
9:50that you gotta think about and being first you're the guy who has to go okay i want to get all the points and then but at some points you have to be willing to sacrifice compromise because you don't know like what's gonna happen with the people we again this they'd know this would be more time or more points clearly there's more points is nobody really went perfect hardly in any class that is valuable um so yeah that's kind of the thought we had yeah because i mean if you really look at it the open ranch was that way nobody finished the open ranch today with the perfect score yeah nobody did um e in the ranch i there might have been one maybe and
10:26the novice there was a there was me and the novice there was one because the course was a little bit different yeah but a lot of people started got ate up with time in certain places that shoot was still difficult yeah definitely right um so yeah those are some some key things how can you set up the next part of your run how can you try to adjust going first is a is a pretty big challenge um because you kind of just happen to wing it a little bit i like to really really think out what the plan is um justin's a little more fly by the seat of his pants kind of guy but i get bound
11:03determined on certain things especially here like i'm going to get the t and then eventually like woodrow i gave up with it and open because it just wasn't going to happen but the problem is too you go first like i did and you have a great run like i did with maddie i just gave away all the secrets right the first time you know yeah so now it's gonna be really hard to for that run to hold up the whole day because people watched oh this is how you can do this because i got i finished the course i just didn't i missed the cross drive we knew that was gonna be tough and then i missed i think everybody missed the cross drive yesterday and open yeah and i missed the fetch which just
11:33kept going wouldn't be my fault um but everything else i did and finished the course and so like people had an idea of how what it might look like so that was kind of unfortunate they gave all this all that stuff away but yeah i mean that's the way it goes and that really affects more on the points in time here that people see in how you did things because they would use that in the field it's not always the same because the way your sheep are moving it's like you got to learn where draws are not how to go through this better maybe it might help okay this is where the line is now i can
12:04do that clearly you know with the sheep there it's a little different seeing sheep go through in your dog versus someone just walking it visually okay that's where i want to be this is what the turn was um he went wider here let him go more through the panel to help turn it easier or had to make a tight turn as you got to try to do those are some things you might pick up or just how the sheep are generally moving at a at a sheep trial as judged you know how are they moving how am i going to try to attack moving them but here you're actually looking at like the strategy of
12:35where should i be on this t again this t is where we have a four panels two you know on each side they're making an l essentially to make a t there along the fence you're going to bring them out the middle uh to get four points and if you go straight through you get half points and so it was kind of hard early on the sheep got better about learning the obstacle but i'm sure to figure out where you should be it's kind of tricky you made it where you couldn't step into all the way in front of it and block it so
13:06you only have your arm there and that was a really i didn't see the open struggle with so much of the line as the other should have pushed the boundaries a little bit push it um i think again it's always important we mentioned this on the other one but we'll hit it again now it's really important lesson to understand that you want to move away take pressure off of the stock or and your dog at times and although it may seem counterintuitive to get away from blocking the hole it actually makes it work
13:36a lot better sometimes it does sometimes it's all about taking the pressure off sometimes you gotta put it on but sometimes taking it off lets everything settle and make it they can make a decision when the pressure isn't off typically i think sheep make the right decision when they're given the opportunity to make one you know you're like okay they take the path of least resistance you want to give them that and they'll take that most time that's kind of what we did there you had a good strategy with marvel you kind of talked about um where you were the first one you said you thought i didn't really see it so i kind of copied it once but i didn't knowingly copy it once yeah so that you went past and then
14:11try to run them back to it yeah so an open ranch yesterday first run i had the sheep coming through the they came through the center you know they just passed the center section of the t the opening was and they're coming towards me and i realized i stepped up and there's nothing i can do to stop and they were going to come over the top of me so luckily she was so nice she gave me a big flank around came around to the back side of me flank around she gave the ground and then come in and stop behind me i had to call her and as i'll do because i wasn't sure how she was handling
14:42the handle fence because back in october this last year around the safe fair the wall there were freaking her out she didn't want to go along them so i was a little concerned here but she was not bothered though with the wall versus just the panels too yeah so she was better she was willing to go up she come in and just walked in and then we stopped and the sheep kind of backed up and looked at the hole i stepped away and the sheep said okay we'll go through and then i was able to just go ahead and send her the rest of the way through once they were going to get them through faster yeah and then able to come out and that was just a it was a happenstance
15:17because i didn't think that was what i was going to do but then it just i had that thought while i was in that moment like hey this might actually work doing it this way it's a different way to do it but sometimes that's the way you got to do it sometimes you want to attack a little bit differently um and whenever these trials to kind of one last point then we kind of move on to watching 15 20 minutes worth of videos is um that's all this space right there dad's side conversation threw me off i think he's talking
15:50to me about a cat but i'm not sure just to get out of relaxing situations dad can have a seat back oh he's getting hot now yeah look at this one right underneath the heater it's a very good feeling right now but yeah so uh man where was i that's a tough question to ask the tough question to ask where were you i don't know i'm i'm a two second man right now okay i'm a little tired you're a little tired i did have a really good point i was gonna make do you have one real quick just think about it oh honestly back to you i think it's as a young handler doing all the experiences you can
16:25whenever your dog's ready my point i'm gonna go off on that a little bit whenever you're a novice handler honestly i feel these kinds of trials are better for your development than going to field novice trial because those typical trials are really just doing that but your dog's not great yet okay um coming here you can set it up however you want right it's normally in the class you're in you can send your dog and then move wherever you want so you can go get in good position to help your
16:57dog out and do positive things then also uh you're able to do some different obstacles typically you're just going to do fetch maybe go around a barrel or some little fetch way or thing and then pin that's it yeah i think it allows you to go do some other stuff work on the panel over here work on walking to the drive and just have to strategize a little bit about what am i doing how to get myself in the best position even in the novice level you have to do this right you think i'm just
17:27going to walk with my dog and push him your dog doesn't want to walk yet don't want to drive yet it's going to run in and take off take off after him you have to get yourself an advantageous situations for your dog even at that level which would be probably just mostly fetching to you and moving in this slow pattern lie down now walk up lie down walk up lie down move ahead walk up all those things over and over well we're doing the same thing in open right but just at a different level right since so i value that a lot i think that's one of the reasons why i got better quick because we did lots of uh when i first started you brought it up earlier and it's a the novice watch the open
18:03handlers uh drive the course and we're standing there and and our dog's driving and they get out there and try to ask the dog to do more than it's capable of sometimes um just because they've seen us do it well they don't ask more of your dog than you know he can do yeah definitely yeah don't don't try to don't watch the open expect your dog to do that understand which level you're at and what you can do and do that really well right right something with my dog it has different strengths than your dogs right or somebody else's dogs maddie's different than car i'm going to put them in
18:37the best situation that i can based on how they work right just different different spots right and so uh novice think about that right think about how can i strategize to do some of these real world activities where i'm even pushing them through some panels or walking over here just some different thought processes so i've really valued this over some of the judge novice trials yeah both i mean they're both great and have their benefits the nice part is if your dog's not going to get a hold of stuff you take your full time in school you know you can still you can still get some points and not
19:10end up with letters all the time and don't be wrong i got letters two out of three times with woodrow this weekend and so it's not uncommon even for me to do that as an open handler dad got letters in the open okay we're gonna you know we're gonna say that you know i did like i think tater ended up with two letters too and woodrow got two as well um so that was a it allows you to get some success and feel comfortable and some seat time seat time as some people like to say with the dog yeah as you're progressing further to prepare for those points and just expand on this a little further
19:44i'm as a novice handler things don't go right don't get too down on yourself like you said i got letters this weekend yeah it ain't very often i get letters anymore but i had letters this was uh the first edition we lost but uh i was the only one who didn't get letters this weekend so that's that's all right i said i did retire once i think today oh wow so he did get letters he lied he lied to all of you just let you know ty's a liar i can get d and q next to mine okay i got r and t
20:14the only one didn't do that sometimes the sport will humble hey i like dq sometimes that's kind of fun yeah you will get you want to be pushing the boundaries right you want to be pushing the boundaries yeah all right so uh we're gonna move on to next you guys can kind of keep talking while i get this set up we're gonna move on to our video breakdown we kind of watch some of this i'll make the screen bigger for us to see okay um here's a second i think this is gonna start off with the open ranch yesterday so let's start off with justin and marvel who had a pretty good run yesterday it was pretty good it wasn't a winner but it was this is number two maybe number one i think it's
20:49run number two right i think it's run number two because you didn't put it over to that location until you till i think the second round so it probably is number two yeah we'll see whichever also i tried sitting in the chair for the open and it's kind of interesting we had a chair as a post and it's pretty comfortable to sit in the chair but it's a little weird because you're like i'm at a weird height than the sheep you can't help the dog at all go around the post at the same time the sheep are a little more curious when you're in a seating in a seated position they're having to go around you yeah i noticed they were like oh what are you doing i haven't got to look at me
21:23you can literally see him right now seated in the chair actually this is open that was open that didn't go well at all i have some open here here we go that run didn't go well so here we go justin sitting in the chair i want to critique that a little bit because you didn't try that i didn't i literally told james like i'm not i'm not ever gonna sit in the chair because you have to do more work ask me a dog to do more asking your dog as an open handler my dog should be able to do that i should be just stand there or sit there but you want to be able to help and do a little bit and
21:54make it more efficient especially something like this i think well i knew i wasn't gonna win the time award die so hey you stood up to get him ready yeah we're flipping sides because they're trying to get the sheep set um come by they come by i was trying to set up because i knew the way the heavy was going and that this time i see the sheep breaking off back there a little bit because i knew the kids were struggling is why i chose that way to kind of help pull the sheep off yeah they make it easier um today i did a different i sent on the weight because they were still kind of
22:25sucked to the yeah where the exhaust was i just sent the the brain down side that was down more i i really right now i also tell you my mindset was so set on i got to get a straight lift and i'm like the day it was i don't have to do that but i was making a beautiful like field course with it right there you know i mean this is nice i was i was in a field trial mode like i just wouldn't lost much points you gotta be standing up no i don't there's a chair there's a chair all the time
22:59i'll i'll sit in it for a little while till i can't see this distance is fine and yeah i was so focused on just a dead drive you know you know i like where you're at we're facing a little bit right here he's in a good steady walk i was kind of shutting him down you know keeping him off stopping him so i wanted him to drift yeah i wanted him to go a little bit on their own and then him let him get up and just kind of cover the inside edge of the arena because they want to break that way and just so you can kind of cover and stop him just let him kind of go through tell you're about
23:29to hit him right now yep that's kind of the difference in the arena trial versus field trial field trial we're driving 100 plus yards you want to flow and be pushing to the cross drive drive cross drive and you just i don't think i get it i overflanked right there overflank and then you can't come back in time and miss low he he just didn't take the stop and i need him to just got the chair to come over to the t over here shortly dq by the way i actually didn't see the bike because i was on the wrong side of it i didn't really think he held on but hey it's fine now that's you know but yeah so
24:02back to what i was saying you want to flow more in those longer field ones here you want to kind of bump bump bump bump be really controlled you don't want to i was trying to get a 41 step out of slowly you know yeah and that was the problem i was just trying to keep it keep it straight and that cost me for the speed and here you are it's in here i don't remember if it happens the first time we do this you see the backup trying to give them a chance to see the hole yeah i'm trying to do is that way they're more likely to want to come to it calling him off because where he's a little too tight and i want him to back off and he didn't is that where it was
24:33yeah that's that's where it was that was the dq right there which you know if you're hitting for bites and then sheep stuff you know it's a lot less it's a lot more frowned upon so you know i i'm not gonna go i'm not upset with it hey i did it i know i did i'm not gonna argue barrett and tater right after me tater this one went to a dad i didn't watch this run but dad said it wasn't that bad and then it turned bad after that but on his dq here that was today wasn't it yeah that was today
25:03yes adq yesterday too on the same run after me adq so we'll watch through you get out just get off the field and then we're getting to tater right here we're kind of maybe we'll just watch the open one just how long that takes i'm gonna save the other one for another day maybe right right yeah we probably can we talked about this for like as i only ran open this weekend it's it's fine by you this is just yesterday was i the only one to be in a non-open class this today's this was yesterday because i dq'd the t i didn't dq'd today yeah this is yesterday
25:35we'll see yesterday he did get a hold uh and and on one of the lambs when it cut across his face i think so let's watch and see if dad sits down hey the funny thing was the whole thing started because kelly told frankie hey i think you should do this and i saw him do it and i was like i thought about that first thing i put the chair out there's like i should sit in the chair for fun and frankie did and i was like you know that looks comfortable i might do that and then i did not do well the chair was not my friend chair was not helpful really it was not my friend for the
26:06trial okay let's see here dad chose the other way turned on they kind of two of them were on the pan one of them went off he covered the one that was off regrouping coming down broadway now dad chose you know it's a pretty line there too like the regroup everything is like exactly what you want to see in a field look that's what he had right there yeah nice crouch on tater i mean that oh that there was our but she was our problem
26:40man he just looks so pretty his crouch is lay down a little bit man he's stylish just so swiftly moved his feet let's see what are you thinking right now dad what's the thought process uh this you is going to be a problem i was always thinking about how do i get through this how do i get that and keep her from she really really wanted back in that uh set uh the exhaust and yeah she was giving us uh bits
27:13there again you got a nice turn eventually and then headed the right direction here it's tough you're kind of pushing the the fence gives us pressure the people on the stands give some pressure so you don't want to be totally behind me i kind of come his granddaughter underneath the stand yeah yeah that one was that one was for sure that wasn't the questionable one that one every question that one was that one's like yeah yeah and at that point i had yet to run and i was worried i've had car coming up next and i was like you ran maddie yet either
27:47no no but car was in the next one next dog i was like is this gonna be four for four or something the second round of open is it gonna be four for four and honestly out of you said woodrow tater and car two out of the three of them we're gonna dq with the bite i would have bet you good money car was i would put her as one of them for sure as one of them the two i would honestly said tater was the least likely out of all of them i would say woodrow probably he does some we're gonna you guys act like that we're about dq sometimes he's not much
28:23of a doesn't bite a ton though yeah but it's usually it's it's for real you know he did it when he did it doesn't happen a lot but especially in the field stuff doesn't happen let's watch car i'm walking out here again you're not gonna see me sit in the chair it doesn't see me as a mr man though i just said hey i didn't the girl the other ladies are making the way you're walking with that big puppy coat on they're like he looks like the michelin man i was like what you know he had a wife it was white i'm like had to have him explain it to me so you know
28:55that was great i good solid uh outrun there yes you're warm very warm i don't know why you didn't turn the heater on right above the post that would have been nice oh everybody's gotta it came way down here i was like i'm okay with that well it didn't cost i mean if you come straight that way it's not costing anything it's actually she's working on moving them good right there turning turn and burn
29:27deflects a little bit there she goes deep off of them good pushing inflects nice what'll be kind of on the inside sometimes it's like are they gonna drift more towards the fence and these guys were definitely like more towards the center so you kind of had to hold your line was on the come by side here you were kind of having to stay on that to keep them on the line to the panels which were i think about they were tight like the gap was pretty small yeah and so that you want to kind of be on this inside part to make sure you hit everything
30:02sometimes you want to be along the wall it just depends on so i hit the drive here and i'm like i'm gonna not gonna mess up this cross drive again i'm not gonna do it i'm not gonna do it i'm not gonna do it and again they come short i try to flank back she does pretty good just like i don't anticipate the short and then i were flanked but i don't know maybe we just barely passed and i was like uh it's close enough i'm gonna just try again yeah and so i'd actually do get them through i think they i mean it's really close i think they went past it but it's kind of hard to determine i'll keep going you just shut your mic off jesson
30:33getting the important call i finally hit it i don't know if she gave me a point or not i probably just barely passed that line yeah then i was like i'm gonna go ahead and try since it was so close it's hard to tell now working this t again i'm not gonna get real close to it i think i might even back up kind of learned that if i say her name get her to look at me she'll flex out a little bit wider in her commands so again getting up in that hole but not too close bumping them
31:03i'm gonna stop and want them to look want them to look in they go a little far that's where i try jesson's mentality i step back and get her right there and then i go back away normally it's uh you giving out pieces of advice i miss it this time this is also you look right underneath here you may not be able to see it i'm pretty sure alley's right underneath the thing you see that lady looking there's that you look at an alley right underneath in the middle of the team
31:35and so you kind of see her in the background there alley is underneath there she had to say hi ty hi i know i knew it was gonna be great when i started running uncle ty uncle ty makes you feel good doesn't it see i got her out wide right there that was really key get her to back off and give them some space and she comes over here i get her back again back further up this time than last time and then um see i'm not close to the edge there
32:07don't have to crowd them yourself get your dog to do some work carl do a good job just one or two steps and out we go it's an important thing too spice used to do that for you a lot we should just like creep forward on her feet not even standing up just like creep forward on her belly um in a really helpful way yeah now that was a big big thing to help with her this is just not car's specialty right here spinning she gets kind of by the end of the run she just gets kind of tight with all the pressure and having to move a lot like that
32:38it's just not her uh the good news at least is she was semi taking your flex out commands where woodrow was not today it was not yeah she got a good water there just kind of flex and get them back right and i should have moved further away i did that later on and it works instead of getting right by the mouth of the pin you think oh but you're not on the panel but if you back away and kind of work your way down it's the best way to go i turn them in and they just walk straight through like like a hot knife through butter just and then make a tight tight turn
33:11your best first shot's the best shot so we'll make it happen that's the ideal doesn't always happen though first shot's the best shot she's doing a good job of staying down she's starting to figure some of it out a little bit more like you know when you want to down when you want to stand i'm trying to really be active myself not in the way some people do you know like i'm not you know stomping around jumping inside i'm just trying to make real precise little movements to get them and again that was my best shot missed it i don't have a ton of time left
33:42and that's my time that's my time there you go right now time on the multis okay so we have i didn't get there with woodrow okay we have nova and maddie still can you find them is the question luckily you're able to put those labeled on there luckily these are labeled you obviously had enough time to do that you must have had nothing to do you know
34:12well i had a chilled mom how to do it i typed the names in earlier here we go there's nova and she did q2 at one point didn't she uh no she didn't we just had a runner that i couldn't okay i can't remember okay so casey just finished up we got nova right here make sure it's still looking good on this page yep still recording well what a good time okay he's about to walk out here he's now just not a quick man after a dq like edit with tater how do you reset
34:44uh well i was just hoping to get a good draw i mean all you can hope for is a good draw because you're going to do with what you get anyway so that's one of the things i love about this sport is you gotta just gotta just put it away right you mess up on a panel you mess up wherever just forget about it get the next thing better you know you gotta have a memory of goldfish sometimes yeah goes the way and it's because i didn't care they come to center stop judging the fetch yeah i thought about this because
35:14and this is a run these run the whole time no matter what these two black witches well there's one leader and it ran so they went around the deal the wrong way she's gonna wrap back and you see how far she is and look at this run she's gonna be running by the end of it she's rolling how far she is she's also running a little quick she's running a little quick and she's kind of turned in hard i had i had to unwrap the post which was a nightmare on these sheep yeah now in the lower classes
35:45they did try to unwrap it to do the timeline and some people you know you gotta think about it's like what are the time how important is the timeline did we say like they had to do this or yeah i said you had to go the right way you did the right way and they did everybody pretty much unwrapped it every time but man it was a struggle and people did it wrong it went the wrong way it's like it was tough they cut across me on the deal there and yeah this was just there they go boom boom boom she's gonna get on them again
36:17she was a little bit i'd have to say a little bit on the muscle she was a little muscle there and i had one that just would but she knew as soon as she was on the muscles they were flying yeah she maybe made those no one low too high i may have gotten them through that one i missed the first yeah uh zigzagging then we get to here and i finally it's just
36:48do the best you can just keep doing keep battling this was the craziest thing yeah he didn't have ally talking to him he didn't have ally in the middle at this point i was saying a lot of things to myself but yeah luckily ally was had a fun time she had a friend to play with the entire time uh she'll have to get another bath again tonight probably two one to yeah one to get the dirt off second one to get clean yeah so
37:20that was another great thing is there was another young family there with kids there's some younger people and honestly this trial if you did the average age of the person it was actually a lot younger than a lot of times we see so there's a lot of younger people that were in this at this trial there were a lot of young i mean we were close to 20 novice i had the runners uh the little lamb really didn't care if he was with the others or not which made it a little tougher it's one of the things i've thought about the quickness is sometimes you
37:50like you want speed but you don't want like speed to be the thing that your dog relies on to move them like car is fast but arm runs are generally pretty slow that makes sense yeah you time out on the cross drive a lot i mean like yeah yeah sometimes we do and i like i finally go on it's not going to happen coming out the center with all these so speed's helpful we need to fix a mistake or fix it you're kind of like oh i'm low low the speed will help me help you get there to make the bump cover up he's trying the justin method come back this way well it
38:21it worked justin claims it's his method it's my method man he's flexing out good i didn't see anyone else do it until i did it and we also progressively made the tee harder i could get the white one his head's in there but these two will not turn with me and i finally i get something and i just go you got them all right here if you would that one went out the back the one that had his head in the whole time went out the back so i just took him through and said we'll go on it's not a
38:52win or run anyway just go on sometimes you gotta get in that mindset it's like i might as well go on this isn't gonna win yeah just just get just work you know just practice a little bit and work struggle she gotta tell you know slowing down dad was waiting to set that up you know he didn't push on he would let him try to settle on him to get over there to cover that spot and be there they were just runners it was tough but it was a fantastic idea to kind of like just settle have her over here get over there and then do it you know not try to be rushing
39:23over there with the sheep coming over and you see she's not even in the picture and they were flying so i mean it is what it is you make do with what you get that's the whole thing you're not always gonna get winner draws but you do do the best you can do with what you got yeah and the multis cross we'll have to try different configurations and stuff we made it pretty narrow this time and it was semi-tough they kind of figured it out
39:53he turned them there you weren't supposed to yeah they turned them out the wrong way it was yesterday it was the day it was yesterday yeah which dad threw me off so much being the man of the quadrant and then whenever we did it today in the opening he's like you take the whole side and i'm like well it's because we were turning them out the side so you gotta give people a chance i felt like you're gonna make it hard for the open and be like no you can't do it you're still stuck to your quadrant anyway out of time i think we could've done it ultimately the way we didn't open you could've done one quadrant open ranch one maybe not you couldn't block over there
40:24but uh you still could have your dog or have your body do it if you set it up right you'll be fine but that's all for that run look look there's ken fixing it because dad's sheep bumped the tee so ken was over there fixing it for everybody else because he winded it out yeah those used were trying to go two by two on him through there and they were moving that here we go now I've got the puff I didn't have the puff coat on before now I've got the machine now you can definitely tell I got it on that's whenever it started getting colder too like the
40:56temperature changed I go come by I learned my lesson from the first time and this time it didn't matter this time didn't matter it doesn't matter at all she goes out good well the thought is it was a really really good run too I just uh your set moved off well enough it's like third or fourth year I think again so
41:17the T's in a bad spot really because you can't multi-scross yeah it's just kind of like it's going to be in the way kind of in the way a little bit it was like really that's why we didn't flip the course for the second run and open was because of the fact you couldn't change the drive and cross-track panels because then your drive is really difficult because that multi-scross is in your ways you're trying to make and your dog can't really be in the right spot so as we didn't change it
41:47crouching up on them again we're not really bumping but we're just controlling really really slow flowing really slow right here right at the middle of these panels and I do if you get a if you could just get forward motion out of these you could control it you didn't want too much you wanted to walk yeah very very light like child little kind of walk them through though I think at least that last one Nova was a little wound pushing a little too much but that and then
42:18I had a set that just would not if you pushed it all they left so that was such benefit of Maddie's because she just kind of just pushes she just leans enough and doesn't really you know I shouldn't have flanked that last time right there she had the best chance with her because she just doesn't put too much on the sheep she has just enough to keep them moving but not enough to make myself I hate myself I messed up right there saw it again it's one of those things you're trying to make a quick decision it's going to be really tight sometimes you
42:48think too much I thought too much right there I had it if I wouldn't have thought too much there's one more correction I didn't have to make sometimes you gotta get out of your own head yeah just blow a bear or lie down slow it down as opposed to give a flank sometimes it'll save you a bunch going to tee here again I work it pretty marvelously I finished the rest of the course by the only one who finished the course out of us was in the open did you guys ever get a pin uh-huh
43:19oh yeah with nova in the first run I didn't miss that I got that super quick let's rewatch so I told Ty I had two dq a ddq and a retire I made it to the multis cross the third time that's fast far I made it didn't even make it I just got two at third yeah I made a good run with nova the first go I want to watch my tee work again right here here we go I kind of wouldn't look in the really quick yeah again her
43:50just walking them through they have a choice I mean we are just crawling that ain't car me I don't know what to tell you she gets up after down just a good straight walk she's just kind of letting them you're drifting you're working you're not too close to the edge right there either they just your little come in I think made a difference she flexed the fence right there too she's off of nice that was the best tee of the whole weekend I think and that wasn't just pure luck that was one of the
44:21fastest through the tee like it just kind of worked you set it up way out there flexing the fence boom the turn so I wasn't like pressuring really hard I kind of just relaxed on my end of it see how I'm walking away from it right here that was the most effective way to do this and kind of funneling down into it I just forgot that and I would have been a car today but sometimes as a handler you get stuck in some bad spots and tendencies forget about what you really should do it's really hard a lot of stuff going on we're not professionals
44:52my job right here is I'm going to turn this really tight right now I'm going to make it she flexed out wide out of the frame I can go do it again I'm getting off wide out there and bring them in I
45:22spiced that a lot karma would do it it's kind of tough because you can't beat them to the pin really yeah you could have that's almost where doing that I wasn't sure if we could run or we do I don't know what the rules are so I'm going to be the professional and not run so yeah the big split stance to catch them and then she gets off of nice
45:52open the pin up wide you didn't creep the panel gate in closer you just moved in didn't make the hole smaller you weren't trying to shrink the gate down and push them in you left the gate moved in and filled the spot that's
